Finally Sleeping

Well, the little monkey is on his second sleep for the day - yey! And he only woke twice during the night as apposed to 3 times so i feel as though i have had heaps more sleep!

We bought Xander a new toy on Saturday as i thought he would benefit from a toy that would get him on his feet, and he now stands up by himself looking at the interesting things on the peek-a-block activity table. Once we have the batteries in it he will enjoy it heaps more.

More important things....

There are more important things than sleep, like playing outside and fishing. But you can't do either if you don't have a top notch fishing jersey and unfortunately Hunting and Fishing don't do my size. So i had to get Dad organised cause there is a big fishing competition coming up in a few weeks and Grandad said it was cold down on the Lake. So what do you think???

Its made out of the same stuff Dad's and Grandad's, which will keep me nice and toastie, if i get to go out on the Lake. My Dad is wonderful, he whipped it up while i was asleep (yes i do sleep some times) and he said if i am good he might use the left overs to make me a pair of pants so my legs stay warm. I can't wait to get on the boat or drive my truck around in the mud and still be nice and warm! Oh well Ang and Jay are coming around for tea so i had better pick up my toys.

I am at my wits end with trying to get Xander to sleep for more than 30minutes during the day and to stop waking up 2-3 times during the night. Every time i leave him i get screams so i think we are sufferring a bit from seperation anxiety. Fun, Fun, Fun for us all!
Xander and i both look really tired, and i was in tears this morning because i am so tired and Xander was tired but wouldn't sleep - luckily Alan was due to get up any way and he got up and played with Xander for an hour and then Xander slept til 8.30 - which meant i got to sleep til then too!
Tuesday we have an appointment with the Parent's Centre to get some help with sleeping, so hopefully that works. I am hesitant to go because i know they are going to tell me off for giving Xander a dummy, but at the moment if it works i will give it. However help is needed so i will take the criticism and do anything to get our monkey sleeping all night again - again? i seems like it has been forever since we had a decent sleep!
If anyone has any suggestions to help with the sleeping please feel free to comment or send emails - i am desperate!

"Look at me! This is so much fun."

Despite waking again during the night and having less than an hour sleep since 6am our little monkey was up on the couch having a great time!

I got the hiccups and Xander thought it was hilarious and was hysterical with laughter every time i hiccuped!

He must think his bed is a prison. He can now get himself out of his safety sleep and this is how i find him! We had some fun playing peek-a-boo between the bars and then he fell and hit his head so an end was put to that game.

We had lunch with dad today and Xander thought all the people in the lunch room were great, he talked and talked and talked and even ate all his lunch - good boy!
We bought some Biltong today which is south african beef jerky for Xander to gnaw on to help with his teething (and i am hoping to get used to the taste of beef!), a few of the other babies have it and they love it so we shall give it a go, if he doesn't like it Alan can eat it.

Doing Alright

The diahorea has gotten better, drool is still in pools, rosy cheeks, bad nappy rash and still no teeth! Talking to another mum today and her daughter had the same symptoms and cut three teeth over the weekend, so Xander may not have been sick after all, i had forgotten that diahorea is a symptom of teething!! Silly Mum.

Despite this Alan says that i am doing a wonderful job, and Xander seems happy enough.
Xander has been doing lots of exploring, as you will see in the photos, but he doesn't like wearing shoes! Today he had very cold feet despite being covered in socks so i put some slippers on his feet and he tried to pull them off!

The ante-natal mothers came round today and we talked about things ranging from teething, real nappies, baby music classes, books (non baby ones!), pelvic floor exercises - turns out i don't have a problem cos i had a c-section and i just thought i was lucky (doh!), useless fathers - Alan is great with Xander!, and generally had a good time gossiping and eating.

  • ate beef!
Sorry for the lack of postings over the last few days but we are sleep deprived! The last two nights have been terrible with Xander waking at 10.30, midnight and 3am. I am putting it down to teething and that because he didn't have a good dinner and was starving!
Tonight Xander ate beef! Yey, he usually has one mouthful and then turns up his nose, but tonight his plate was only a quarter full! and he ate a huge helping of custard. Fingers crossed tonight is a good one - we need it! Then hopefully his long sleeps in the morning will come back too! It seems to work that a good sleep at night makes good sleeps during the day - the more the better? We in the case of infants i will agree.

Progress Report

Xander does a few things that i haven't told you about - i keep forgetting to add them to the blog! so here is the list of his quirks and achievements:
  • pulls himself up to a kneeling position and tries to stand but his toes are curled under.
  • has been shaking his head for the past two weeks and has figured out that it means no, and when no longer wants food shakes his head and pulls a face
  • delights in sharing his dummy with mummy and daddy
  • spontaneously laughs and giggles
  • babbles and babbles and babbles
  • protests whenever we change him, particularly when putting clothes on
  • crawls under the table and chairs to the plastic mat under his highchair
  • loves hide and seek when he uses the curtain himself - he thinks he is really cool!
  • when not strapped into bed he sits up and then calls for us
  • bounces on his bottom when he hears music
  • reaches up to be picked up now too!
I don't think i have missed anything out.
I'll try to remember to add these things to each post!

Waikato vs Lions

"Today i went to my first rugby game, Waikato versus Wellington Lions. The Lions won 45-24. I was more interested in showing my teeth to the man behind me though! And Tana scored a try - go Tana!"

We loaded Xander into the backpack and went along to the rugby. It was a bit chilly so luckily he was bundled up warm.

Alan and i were woken up to Xander screaming at 3.30am. I got up and gave him some water and then tucked him back in. Alan got up then as Xander wouldn't stop crying and Alan discovered that Xander had pooped his bed - i never think to check his nappy when he wakes in the night, perhaps this will learn me!
Poor Xander is feeling a bit poorly. He's off his food, won't even take a bottle and he has yellow clay in his nappies - not that you really want to know, but the stink makes me dry retch!, it's never been this bad before. He doesn't have a temperature and is still his happy little self, just won't eat so i will be watching him closely over the next few days.

On a Mission

No sooner do you put him on the floor than he is on his hands and knees scurrying to the tiniest bit of fluff he's spied across the room! It's great seeing him move; just have to be faster than he is. Yesterday for lunch he had yoghurt, cheese on toast and raisins. Raisins but they are tiny?? Well he chews and chews and gags and chews and gags and then spits it out, then starts again with another one. He cried when i took them away so i gave them back.

Caught! This is what happens when I'm not fast enough - at least he has better taste in music than his Mum; Jimi Hendrix is the one in his hands and he goes for the same one every time! Obviously takes after his Daddy. Xander no longer says Mumumumum, predominately we now hear Dadadadadad, and he just grins when i says Mumumumum.
Man does he love the curtain in the lounge, he thinks he is so cool playing peek-a-boo with anyone watching and he even played with himself because i wasn't paying attention at one time, he just laughed and laughed and laughed....! He is definitely a confident person, he babbles and talks all day long. It is very cute hearing him babble and talk in his cot when he is supposed to be going to sleep. And those smiles are still the best thing in this world!

Asleep tonight at 6.15pm, slept right through to 5.30am this morning, 2 hour sleep this morning followed by an hour and 45 minutes this afternoon.....Xander is on a mission to shock his Mamma!
For the past 3 days Xander has had 2 decent sleeps during the day. Perhaps it's because I'm paying better attention to his tired signs and feeding him lots during the day. It could also be his teething too, his top was soaked today drool! All he did was open his mouth smiling and out pours this drool, it's gross and i hope it doesn't last long.

And of course don't forget to check the photos!

Prime Angus Sirloin Steak

For Xander's dinner he was served the best steak ever and you know what??....he gagged! Poor Daddy was so upset cos all he got for dinner was bbq steak. Geez that will teach us to give our baby the best stuff!

"Grandad and Nanna have got me a cool F150 Ford V8 Truck to ride on!
Mummy showed me the photo and it's awesome, i can't wait until i am big enough to ride it!"

This great ride on truck will be so much fun for Xander, it is unfortunate that it will be too big for him right now. And of course it's a Ford, go Grandad!

Xander's next tooth is trying to make an appearance amongst all the drool. Not up above like we expected but on the bottom right about two away from his first one!

Xander had a 2.5 hour sleep this afternoon! It was great, but i was a bit worried and was in there every 10 minutes or so to make sure he was okay! It is probably because he only had a 30minute sleep in the morning and we then went to an Infant Movement course at Plunket - and of course he was the most advanced baby and he made sure he was the centre of attention.

After trying for the past 2 months to get Xander to eat meat that does not come in a can of baby food, he finally ate chicken with his pumpkin - all homecooked - for dinner last night! He scoffed it down. Sunday night we gave him some yummy pieces of roast lamb, but he didn't like that - i don't know if it was because of the peas or because the lamb was cut into little chunks rather than minced up like the chicken was.

"I had some yummy yoghurt and sticks of cheese for lunch.
They are very yummy, no more boring veges for lunch!"

Xander showed Daddy how he plays peek-a-boo with the curtain, and he was giving Mummy "kisses". He opens his mouth wide, latches onto your nose but doesn't bite and then giggles! It is adorable.

This morning Xander delighted in bouncing on our bed and then thought it was a great game helping mum make it. Smoothing the sheets seems to be his favourite part!

Over the weekend we had to child proof our home as there is no stopping our little man now! He sees something he wants and makes a bee line. We had to attach speaker cables to the walls and get clips to stop him from opening the drawers. Next purchase will be something to cover the video and DVD slots; if he's anything like his mum we will find lego and small toys in there soon!
On Sunday Xander would not take his 2 hour sleep, probably 'cos his daddy was playing with him and he was having too much fun, so we packed him in the car and off we went to Mitcham Park. Unfortunately - or is it fortunate! - Xander was asleep so we didn't ride the trains that we found. It was pretty busy so must be very popular, it looked like heaps of fun! Maybe we will go when Nanna comes for her week visit!

Xander is wearing his size 1 clothes now, they are a bit big, but we now have a bigger range to dress him in. Not so dominated by blues anymore, he now has lots of greens and reds! I put all his outgrown clothes away which was very sad for me, he had some very cute little outfits that i wish he could still fit : (

Not only is he crawling and then going from his tummy to sitting, last night he was trying to pull himself up to a standing position. He only made it to his knees and then tried with his toes but ended on a slant and then plonked on his bottom, but he is very close. Doesn't it seem as though he is doing everything very quickly?!?

Play Day

Thursday was a fun day! Xander had a two hour sleep in the morning and then had a big lunch and munched on white bread spread with smooth peanut butter - i love now he can eat pretty much everything we eat except for egg white, honey and strawberries!

He played peek-a-boo with me with the curtain, very cute!

Where's Xander? Here is am!!

Then off we went to visit Rory, Eden, Kayley, Lewis, Mikayla and Cullen for a play date.

Xander had so much fun being the only baby to crawl, he grabbed Cullen's dummy off him, stole toys from the girls - but Mikayla held her own and got them back! Our little man is a bit of a bully. It's good to see that he has finally found his voice around the babies, before now he would sit there and quietly play and watch, but he was very cheeky yesterday.
Of course us mums had a good ol' catch up and inevitable brag about our babes! A tooth count was taken and three of our babies has 2 teeth, three had none and one (the youngest!) had 7! Eden is standing and walking with her hands held and she is 9 months old - i'm told both her parents skipped crawling and went straight to walking.

This morning i left Xander alone for 10 minutes (i know never leave a new crawler by themselves!) and when i came into the lounge he was soaking wet as well as the carpet as i had forgotten to pick up the container of water that i sponge bathed him with! hehe, that will teach me.
We have a lunch date with Daddy today, so we are very excited.

Thanks Aunty Jenny for the new outfit, it has my favourite motif of a cheeky monkey!
Mum has washed all the new clothes that Granny and Grandpa sent too and i can't wait to start wearing them.

Good Boy

Yey, Xander woke at 5.45am only this morning! yey, good night sleep.
We tried to get Xander to feed himself his dinner last night, he had more food on his face than in his mouth and he didn't eat very much! He was more interested in playing with and sucking the spoon.
Hey Grandad, i made a mess and it was heaps of fun!

8 Months Old!

Wow, hasn't the time gone fast! 8.7kg - he hasn't put much on this month; probably didn't help that he got sick and went off his solids, lukily on track again! 68.5cms tall. i think at 7 months he was 71cms but i measured him then so must have been wrong!
Over the weekend we drove down to Taupo to visit Nanna and Grandad and Aunty Jenny. We had lots of fun rolling in the grass, Xander stood by himself, lots of giggling, smiling and pulling faces.
Check out the photos of our lovely weekend.

Xander can now get from his tummy to his bottom in a sitting position. He is just too clever!
Also when either Alan or i come into the room Xander puts his arms out and beckons with his hands, almost like waving.

First Sickness

Poor Xander has a blocked nose and it has caused a horrible cough. So off to the doctor we went this morning and we now have drops for his nose to clear that up which should hopefully get rid of the cough.
Because i was afraid he would stop breathing during the night, Xander kept me and Alan company in bed, we shared his cuddles when he woke with a cough, so we are all tired today, but at least Xander didn't stop breathing!

Sunday was a day of discovery for me, it was so much fun. I sat out in the sunshine with Daddy and i touched the grass, it was soft but a little wet! and then i pulled some leaves off a tree, they didn't taste all that nice though. Then we went for a big walk and i saw some ducks! Mummy fed them bread and they all came in a circle. There was a mean one though and it kept biting other ducks. Naughty duck!
