Playgroup Christmas party

Today was the final playgroup session for the year and it was a special one.
There was Christmas music, a bouncy castle, lots of food.

Xander found the lolly bowl and as i was feeding Esmee couldn't stop him and he devoured the whole lot! At least he got to burn off most of the sugar in the bouncy castle and then in the little cars.Santa arrived bearing presents for everyone and when it was Xander's turn he was afraid. I had to go up with him so didn't get a photo. Esmee got a gift too, a ball with a little bell in it.

As some of the toys are too big to store them for the summer we have taken home the slide and Xander is delighted. He will get lots of use out of it over January when we come back from holiday.

Look i can grab it!

3 Months old

Our little lady is three months old!
To celebrate? She got her shots. How mean are we?!! She understandably cried through the whole thing and for the 20 minutes we have to wait in the waiting room afterwards. She slept for 3 hours after that but didn't sleep for the rest of the day.
It was so hot today we all suffered.

Thursday we had Esmee's 3 month plunket check. To my horror i found Esmee has only gained 200gms in six weeks. She was only 4.8kg. She grew 2cms in length and 1.5cms in head circumference but not much weight gain. I had noticed that she would feed for about 2 minutes and then just be sucking and she wasn't sleeping very much during the day (still sleeps all night!). The heat (and the fact i kept forgetting to drink heaps!) had affected my milk and she hadn't been getting enough. Terrible mum moment. I was promptly advised to drink lots more and given instructions to get some lactation drops from a naturapath. Two days later the milk was flowing nicely and Esmee seemed heaps happier. I have been half waking her when we go to bed and giving her a top up then too (guiltily hoping this will make up for not feeding her enough!).
Today she had to be weighed for the correct amount of immunisations and she weighed 5.28kg. Almost half a kilo in 4 days! Yey, back to feeling like a good mum again.

Jealousy Bites

Jealousy has reared it's ugly head. For the first three months Xander has loved every minute of Esmee. Recently, or the past two weeks, he has become a bit more uncontrollable and has started asking for Esmee to be put in the rocker while i am feeding her or burping her. He has usually loved sharing his bath with her; until last night. He decided she had had enough and when i wasn't quick enough to get her out, he tried to push my arm away from holding her, when i wouldn't let go he tried to push her away. Much to her displeasure (she started screaming) Esmee was whipped out of the bath and he was held back by his father. Other times as soon as i took Esmee out of the bath he would start to climb out calling for me to dry and dress him. Problem solved tonight: we bathed Esmee in the baby bath and Alan bought her her own rubber ducky (Xander didn't like her playing with his!).
At other times he loves showing her his toys and they delighted in looking together at the toys on the play gym. So cute. We are trying to include him with many of our activities with Esmee and quality one on one time. Today was a much better day.

On a happier note, Xander has relished the time with Alan as he has been on holiday these last two weeks. They have been kicking the ball, playing in the pool, playing with the water toy... and yesterday Xander ran around for the afternoon with no nappy. Suddenly he called out to Alan "pee pee potty", he was promptly presented with it and there he sat until "brown poos!". Xander did his first poo in the potty. It was great and he was so proud of himself.

Alan, Potty and Listening

How many two year olds do you know who know their father's name and constantly calls him by it? Xander is always calling "Alan, Alan, Alan." until he answers. Alan has tried not replying until Xander says Dad, but lately he hasn't been saying it at all!
We think he is so clever. He recognises the letters, X, O and S.
He has become very independent, always saying "Dander do it." so he is trying very hard to grow up quickly which is apparently a sign he is ready for toilet training but we are letting him go at his own pace and not pushing it.
The other day he told us he wanted to go potty and he pulled his pants down and ripped off his nappy and off we trotted to the bathroom where he gleefully did "lower" pee pee!
We have started a reward chart to see if it helps with his listening, eating his dinner and to encourage his using the potty. He loves putting the stickers on.

When he doesn't do as he is told we count to three and then he is put in his room for time out if he doesn't comply. As soon as we get to two he starts to whine but doesn't budge until we have said three and are carrying him to his room! He is learning though, and likes holding on to Esmee's carpod when we go out and so far this week we have had no running away!

12 weeks old

What a delightful little girl we have. She is all smiles and has even started to laugh.
She doesn't like lying down in the bath, preferring to sit up and watch what Xander is doing and last night she splashed the water with her hand and touched the little ball a few times and giggled in delight.
She is still sleeping through the night and has improved on her napping during the day.
She has rolled over twice and is getting very strong with her neck holding it up nice and high.
I don't know her weight and length as yet, we have plunket check up tomorrow.

She adores her brother and doesn't seem to mind if he is a little bit rough in his attention, she still follows him with her eyes and fusses if she can hear but not see him!

What a wonderful few days....

On Monday it was really hot so Esmee got to wear a dress. When we went vege shopping Xander put his beads around her neck and said "nice".

Tuesday the weather was just gorgeous. We had a picnic lunch out of the back lawn. Esmee didn't sleep very much during the day (only two hours!) and cried for most of it. Despite being really tired she still managed to give good smiles and had some tummy time looking at Xander's cars.

After dinner and Esmee was finally asleep in bed we put the Christmas tree up and Xander loved putting the decorations on the tree.

Wednesday was a much better day despite turning to rain around lunch time. Esmee caught up on her sleep by having a three hour sleep and two 1.5 hour ones. She even managed to roll over! I have been real slack with tummy time and was shocked when she rolled over. She is really strong and loves looking at the toys in front of her, she is even trying to touch them!

Xander has finally cut his top two molars but they have only just broken through so more pain and discomfort is in store until they are completely through.
My darlings, both having had great sleeps lay in my bed and allowed me to take some nice pictures of the two of them. Esmee has such a gorgeous smile and Xander is just plain funny!

Fun day

Here is Xander reading his wiggles shapes book to himself, it is a bit noisy as the diggers were going.

Here he is singing Twinkle Twinkle, he touches his nose becuase i have always touched it at that part in the song.

My Babies

Xander has discovered the joy of playdoh, or should i say chopping playdoh and we have it all over the floor at least twice a day. We made a little snowman out of 'doh and he pulled up his top and informed me he was giving the man a feed! just like i do with Esmee.

He is talking in 2 and 3 words sentences now and loves to tell us what he has done all day.
He has also finally discovered Winnie the pooh. He loves watching Piglets big movie and the Tigger movie. The other day while watching Piglet he suddenly burst into tears because piglet was crying and didn't want to have a bath - it was so sweet!
My darlings sat very nicely on my bed for me to take a lovely photo. So cute.

Esmee sleeps all night and has done for a good few weeks, it's so nice to have a good sleep. She is very smiley and loves to chat.

She especially loves to watch what Xander is doing. We think she looks a little like a pixie, in this photo it is very clear, don't you think?

Fishies, stingray, shark, Nemo!

We took Xander to Kelly Tarltons as a birthday present.
He slept in the car on the way up and was then so excited when we got there he didn't want any lunch. He was really scared when we went on the snowcat to see the penguins,(we went through some black rubber curtains) but as soon as he saw them he was really happy. Alan said there was a chick but i didn't see it.
On the underwater conveyerbelt we watched the fishes, sharks, stingrays and turtles swimming around. Xander was fascinated but i think his favourite were the stingrays. We got off after two rounds and then went and saw the tropical fish tanks.
Xander was delighted to see Nemo! The same tank had Dory and the Yellow fish (the one who liked bubbles in the dentists office).Esmee slept in the frontpack and pram most of the time, she did wake up one time when we were in the underwater dome and had a bit of a look around, but went back to sleep pretty quickly.

Two months old

Wow hasn't the time gone fast, Esmee is two months old already!
She is talking lots and every time she sees Xander, Daddy or me she lights up with gorgeous smiles. She enjoys kicking under the playgym and having baths. She enjoys a massage after bath and coos the whole time.
See is a nosy little thing and hates not seeing what is going on. She adores Xander and watches him all the time.
A little piggy she is growing very fast weighing in at 4.5kg and is 56cms long.
Most nights, 4 out of 5, she sleeps from 7pm to 4.30am, on the odd night she will wake at 2.30am. She seems to like being awake all morning until about 10 and then will sleep for 3-4 hours.
We are so lucky to have a gorgeous little girl!

Esmee talking

a few videos

Sorry it has taken me a while to upload more videos here are a few.

Xander's new train, Hogwarts Express

Blowing Bubbles

drawing balloons

Another Party.

Xander went to Kayley's birthday party on Sunday.
It started out sunny but clouded over quickly and alternated between cold and warm. He had fun in the sandpit and on the see-saw with Michaela.

Nita had a great time with Esmee while i supervised the kids outside.
Xander started to not feel himself, he had a slightly red eye and i thought he had sand in it or something, but when he refused cake i knew he wasn't feeling well.
Monday he woke with big red puffy eyes that were all gunked up and weeping, his nose was constantly streaming as well. He had a temperature and sat of the couch looking miserable most of the day. We finally took him to the doctor and he said he has picked up a virus of some sort and it was contaigous - just what i needed to hear with a new baby and after all the parties we'd had! This is him yesterday, he was much worse on Monday, but is mending well and rather quickly.

Party time!

What a week. Xander was sung Happy Birthday 4 times. First at mainly music when he was given a small gift, then at library playgroup and again at friday playgroup where he had a small party as well.

On his birthday woke to find balloons hanging in his door way. He jumped into bed with us and opened two presents, a wiggles blanket from Esmee and a talk and sing Murray (red wiggle) from us. He loved them! He went swimming with Daddy then after his sleep he awoke to find Nanna, Grandad, Uncle Matt and Jenny here.

He opened more presents to reveal a Hogwarts Express model train and lots of track and some stations. Alan is going to be busy building this model railway for Xander!
2:30 arrived bringing with it lots of friends and party fun. Scoffing marshmellows and cheerios he greeted everyone with a joyful Hello and they all ran around outside when Alan started making bubbles. What a great time they all had.

Esmee didn't want to miss out on all the fun so was awake for the whole party (little monkey) but she looked lovely in her yellow outfit, courtesy of Aunty Angelina.

Xander looked great in his outfit - he definately looked 2! I can't believe he is growing so quickly.
Thank you everyone for the wonderful presents and for helping us celebrate Xander's 2nd birthday.

What's up?

I thought i should let you all know that our baby sleeps 11 hours at night now! she doesn't wake until about 6am for her feed. Now that i've told everyone she will change her routine but that's okay, i'm getting heaps of sleep with is great!

We found Xander in our bed on Saturday night. He'd climbed out of his bed and crawled into ours without us knowing! There he was when we went to bed, so cute lying on his daddy's side.
A friend at Playgroup has given us 6 bags of clothes for Esmee so we won't be needing to buy clothes about a year - except if we find there are necessary items we need to get, eg singlets, but how great is that - only downside, they are all pink so whatever i do buy will be in reds and greens as these suit her hair colouring anyway.

No photos as our batteries have died and we have to buy new ones, sorry

My novel is coming along a bit slower than expected but it should pick up once i am more into it. I have to stop being a perfectionist and just get it written, i can perfect it when editing. Easier said than done.

Alan's birthday

Alan's Birthday was on Saturday. He spent the morning swimming with Xander, then a quiet afternoon at home playing with his Wii and Xander and Esmee.
I cooked a roast chicken and then tried to make him a lemon merangue pie as i know this is his favourite. Well it was a complete and utter disaster but he said he had a good day so that is good!

Just as an aside, i thought i would let you know that postings to the blog may be a bit sparse over the next month - i am finally writing my novel!

pee-pee in the potty!

Monday was a funny day. We had to go to the doctor to get Esmee her 6 week jabs - can't believe six weeks has gone so fast! - Xander did very well considering he was bored - he only ran away from me half a dozen times, but one of those times was in the carpark! He has been doing that a lot lately, completely ignoring us.
Esmee did well with her jabs - cried while she had them obviously but stopped almost immediately and then had no reactions at all, and she had a great sleep, now sleeps 8 hours a night!

Xander fell asleep in the car on the way home and woke up just as i put him into his bed and he then refused to go back to sleep, i left him there for a bit but soon discovered he had taken off his nappy and peed in the bed! and when i started to get a new nappy for him he peed on the floor too! Lucky it has been nice weather and i have been able to wash and dry the sheets - he has wet the bed 2 nights in a row. Anyway he was so tired that i tried and succeeded in getting him to sleep at 3.30 - he slept til 5.30 when Alan got home. We went and watched him play Hockey, then came home for a bath and then bed. When in the bath Xander informed me he wanted to do poos so out came the potty. No poos but we had some pee - he was so pleased with himself! I'm glad summer is arriving, i can start toilet training soon.

Greeny and Punkin

Xander had so much fun with Henny, Dave and Angelina here that he has asked about all of them every day since!
He loves to tell me what they did when here - shopping is one of his favourite words when we talk about "Greeny" and he is always asking about "Punkin". Lord knows where he got Punkin out of Grandpa but if we understand who is talking about i guess it doesn't matter does it!

Busy Weekend

Our weekend started off with Xander going to Eden's 2nd birthday party on Friday. He had a great time eating marshmellows, playing on the slide and cars and then having some cake! Before we went to the party Granny, Grandpa and Aunty Angie arrived. We left Esmee with them and had a great time together.

Saturday saw Xander and Alan at swimming, after we did the groceries. Xander fell into a big sleep but woke up very upset when he found mum and Granny, Esmee and Aunty Angie were gone. He had some lunch and then came over the base where we were shopping. Mum got some 3/4 pants and Esmee got a gorgeous yellow suit and green cardy from Aunty Angie.
Gengys was our stop for dinner. Xander did really well having some soup and bread, noodles and icecream. Alan remembered to take some books and his pens and paper so he was well occupied while we ate our dinner. There were no tantrums even though he was really tired, well done Xander. Esmee had a funny night as she had a feed at the restaurant which would have been her last for the night, but she had another when we got home and then woke every 2-3 hours during the night.

Today we waited until after Xander's sleep and then went into town for more shopping, this time the trip had a purpose, Xander and Alan's birthday presents from Granny, Grandpa and Aunty Angie. Xander came away with a mat for his cars - it has roads and houses on it, and from Aunty Angie a leap frog phonetics that he can stick to the fridge, he loved pushing the buttons and singing along to the alphabet!

Alan being picky didn't get anything, except Granny got him some pants and a few t-shirts.
Both Xander and Esmee have been very spoilt with lots of attention and cuddles.

I can't believe my little girl is one month already! I tried to get a photo of her smiling but it was all blurry, so here she is instead in her cute dress from Merrilyn.

swimming

Xander had his first swimming lesson for the year this weekend. He was the oldest in his class, i think all the others were under 1! I am going to ring the pool this week (i keep forgetting) and enquire what the next level up do and whether or not we should put him in a higher class.
Unfortunately the camera batteries died so i didn't get any good photos just this one!
