Down and Out

Xander and Esmee have been sick since Saturday night. Throwing up and filling their pants as soon as they are all cleaned up, not to mention the number to sheets that had to be changed! They must have picked up a bug somewhere, Alan and I didn't get anything.
You could tell Xander was sick because all he did for two whole days was lay on the couch, not talking, hardly eating and asking to go back to bed.
Esmee has been sleeping all day too and not eating anything - the only thing she would accept was her bottle but that is no good as it came out as soon as it was finished!
Thankfully this morning they are both well, Esmee ate two weetbix (the most food she's eated since sunday!) and Xander went to kindy this afternoon, after talking the roof off to make up for his silence on Tuesday morning.
Despite feeling sick, they have been wonderful together. Xander shared his black chair with Esmee to watch t.v, and he gave her his crafts once he had finished painting them.
Yesterday they played outside and Esmee delighted in climbing the slide and going down on her tummy! She ventured around the house with her walking and delighted in sitting on it when i converted it to the little ride-on.

A Recipe for Mothers

I Found this poem in a new cookbook i bought "4 Ingredients" by Kim McCosker & Rachael Bermingham, written by Joanne Green, that i thought was great and describes my day so well:

Today i left some dishes dirty;
The bed i made at 3:30
The nappies soaked a little longer,
The odour grew a little stronger.
The crumbs i split the day before
Are staring at me from the floor.
The fingerprints, there on the wall
Will likely still be there, next fall.
The dirty streaks on the window panes
Will still be there next time it rains.
"Shame on you old lazy-bones," i say
"And just what have you done, today?"

I nursed a baby till [s]he slept,
I held a toddler while he wept.
I played a game of hide and seek
I squeezed a toy, so it would squeak.
I pulled a wagon, sang a song,
Taught a child right from wrong.
What did i do this whole day through?
Not much that shows, i guess it's true...
Unless you think that what i've done
Might be important to someone
With bright blue eyes and soft blonde hair
If that is true, i've done my share.

So it just goes to show i'm not the only one. My house may be untidy but my kids are loved!

When Nanna came...

We were so lucky to have Nanna come to stay for a week. She joined us on the drive home from Wellington and i'm sure she was exhausted when she caught the bus on Friday!
The kids loved having her here, Xander woke up asking where is Nanna and Esmee was calling for her from her cot the afternoon she left!
Xander delighted in showing her a new trick he had discovered the week before:

Thanks for all the help mum, we all enjoyed having you stay.

She's One!

Opening her presents (the only shot that Xander didn't do the opening!)

testing her new present - converts to a ride on!

Pretty in her new dress at Mainly Music. She was given a small gift and sung Happy Birthday! Man did she love the bike.

In her wings costume for her party - she devoured most of the marshmellows! I made the little skirt last night....

And Xander's cool Batwings! Go batman go!

More presents - she wasn't as into this as Xander was on his first birthday!

Ice-cream birthday cake - yum!

Esmee didn't have a chance to blow out her candle - everyone else was too fast!

Everyone eating cake

It was a nice warm day so we got to have the doors open and the kids ran around outside. Esmee loved the attention and made sure she had prime spot close to the food.
Thanks for coming to the party and the wonderful presents - i think her favourite are the glasses Michelle!

Esmee's Wellington Party

Esmee had her first birthday party with family in wellington on Saturday at 2:30pm.
With balloons, crepe paper, mini muffins, cheese, cake, chippies, crackers, sausages and of course presents she had a ball!
Her favourite present was a caterpillar that sings "ABC.." and she tries to sing along. Nanna bought her a frog plush chair and she sits on it like it's a throne.
Xander made the birthday cake with Granny and then i iced it - a lovely butterfly.
Thank you everyone for the wonderful presents and for helping celebrate the end of Esmee's babyhood!

Pa and Butterflies

Our pretty girl!

Saturday we drove all the way to the Auckland Airport - Xander slept most of the way - and picked up Pa who is visiting from Australia. Xander was so excited and has been asking about him all week, he is so delighted to have him here he doesn't let him out of his sight and i'm sure Trevor is sick of the sound of "Pa"!
Esmee was a bit shy to begin with but by the time we'd visited the butterflies at Butterfly Creek she was her cheeky flirty self.

The Butterflies were amazing! So many different colours and they shapes and they loved bright colours. Xander wasn't too keen on them fluttering for a closer look at his Thomas top and convulsed with fear with his hands glued to his ears.

This was the only time Xander didn't have his hands on his ears (he thought they would fly inside!) and actually got him to look at one.
They landed on Alan's hat, my head, bag and even Esmee's dress. It was so hot and we were all sweating.
Xander was pleased to leave the butterflies and have his beloved fluffy! When we got home, Pa brought out gifts for the kids.
Xander got his very own tool belt, hammer, screw drivers, square, saw and many more things to put in his tool box - all real too! he was so excited he went around singing Bob the Builder for the night!Netta had knitted booties and scarfs and hats for the kids and Esmee just looked adorable - but then she always does! Thanks Netta.

Kindy Disco

Friday night was a Disco at Kindy!
At one time all the boys were outside on the playground and the girls were dancing inside!
It was great to see so many dads come too, even Alan came. Xander quickly warmed up to the party and was soon break dancing all over the floor... go Xander!

Mainly Music

Esmee loves the rocking horse and here she is trying to get on by herself! So independent.

The kids just love going to music on Wednesday. They get to dance, make lots of noise and run around to music.Esmee started trying to do the actions today - especially with the plates to "The Wheels on the Bus" and she loves shaking the rice!

Xander loves getting all the accesssories for us and taking them back, but his most favourite part (apart from the biscuits afterwards!) is when he gets to ride on the pink bike. He peddles round and round until it's time to go home.

My little cuties!

Esmee is loving her signs and the fact that she can be understood, we love it too - both kids are delighted with flowers, even plastic ones!
Our little miss loves books, but as soon as you sit down with her to read one chaos insues! She doesn't want you to read it to her, she just wants to flip the pages quickly...oh well, maybe we will just keep trying!
We have just spent a week in Wellington. It was a great trip, despite the long drive, having to stop every hour and a half to make Xander go to the toilet, and Esmee not sleeping so screaming for the last half hour of it!
The kids enjoyed spending time with Granny, Grandpa and Aunty Angelina, Esmee was even holding her arms out to be picked up by them by the time we left!
Xander really enjoyed playing on the see-saw with Granny - go Granny! We got back early afternoon on Sunday and were immediately getting ready for a birthday party. I had forgotten it was a dress up one so poor Xander went in his Wiggles pj's in lieu of a costume and i then forgot Esmee's wings! oh well, they had a wonderful time jumping climbing and eating at the YMCA!
