Our incredible kids!

This summer weather is beautiful and kids are taking full advantage of it! They've been in the paddling pool, had ice blocks and we are enjoying eating dinner on the deck.
Esmee has taken to crawling like a spider whilst outside which is hilarious. Everyday she is taking one or two steps but is preferring to crawl. Yesterday she practiced standing from sitting without holding onto anything for a good five minutes, so funny.

Xander delighted Esmee by asking to read her a story and she climbed onto his knee and sat nicely while he read to her. What lovely siblings.

She may not be too confident yet to walk but she is very confident in climbing. This is only half way up. Yesterday she went ALL the way up and hid in the fort so i couldn't reach her! Look at the delight on her face. She giggles the whole time which makes her slide down 5 times out of the ten that she climbs!

Xander was being a duffer and i turned the corner and foudn him trying to crawl up the wall. he thought it was hilarious!

Yesterday morning we dressed up - the kids did i didn't! Charlie gave Xander this batman costume for his birthday which he thinks is awesome.

Not to be outdone by her brother Esmee wore her wings! Face of an Angel but we know better!

The Mom Song

I received this video as an email today - it is awesome, listen to it loud and hold your breath!

http://blogs.northlandchurch.net/2008/08/11/the-mom-song/

oh by the way - i have finished my novel!!!

Before i was a Mum

Was emailed this poem and it's beautiful - i think my friend Ang recited this at her daughter's Naming Ceremony.

Before I was a Mum -
I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about carseats.

Before I was a Mum,
I had never been puked on.
Pooped on.
Chewed on..
Peed on.

I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mum -
I never held down a screaming child so doctors could do tests, or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mum -
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put her down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mum.

Before I was a Mum -
I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.

I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was a Mum -
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache,
The wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mum.

I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much, before I was a Mum.

I can't walk, but i can climb

Esmee has managed to take 3 steps by herself since Tuesday. Our little girl is definately a climber though. Here she is following her brother up the slide! She loves doing this over and over and then sliding down on her tummy.

Plunket Babies

How sad, today was Xander's last check up at plunket. The nurse did his height and weight and was amazed at his cooperation and his politeness. He had an eye test where he got to wear a patch like Captain Feathersword. Our little man is just above the 50%ile for his height 96.8cm and weight 16kg.

Esmee didn't like the look of the nurse and cried when she checked her spine and weight and height. Poor sensitive little might. Sue said she is a very pettite watchful little girl, doing really well. Our little girl is well within the 25%ile for her height 74.3cm and weight 9kg, despite being a better eater than her brother!

When Xander's away Esmee does play

Xander had a long sleep after kindy today so while he slept Esmee got stuck in with the playdough.
She loved it, squishing the dough in her fingers, using the cutters without them being stolen from her, pretending they were cookies. I think this is the first time i have had some real one on one time with her since she has been born. We also read some stories, played with the stacking cups and rings. Really have to coordinate their day sleeps so that we get this one on one time again more often.
It is also her 14month birthday today.

Xanders party!

It was hot hot hot and the kids had a great time.
We had at least twenty people here on Saturday afternoon - kids and parents. We popped up two play tents and the gazebo, whipped up a batch of playdough and let them go for it. Of course there was party food first then they played everywhere.

Xander's cake was a hit - Alan decorated it with a dinosaur mountain and valley with a volcano at the top. By the time Xander got to blow out the candles there was an extra dinosaur on the cake and fingerprints in the jelly!

Xander had fun testing out his rugby ball with granddad and Eden, then playing t-ball with daddy and michaela. While Esmee caught up with Nanna.

Once everyone had left, Xander Esmee and Michaela chilled out with a jelly tip.

What a great day!

And now he's 3!

I was awake at 5am so excited for Xander that it is his Birthday!
When he woke up he didn't remember and i had to prompt his memory but once he realised why today was special you should have seen his grin!
Off to kindy today where he is the centre of attention and finally got to wear the birthday crown, sit in the birthday chair and choose his song and claps.

We went out for dinner and he got his chicken nuggets and a traffic light drink which he thought was awesome, that is until he mixed it and it all went green! We then came home and had an ice cream. Of course Xander's was a special one!

So exciting and so sad that he is 3. Our little man is growing up so fast. Does anyone know how to slow down time???

Esmee rides too!

Esmee's seat arrived this morning so we just had to test it out on my new bike!
I think it is a hit! Xander is so excited; now we can go riding together!
