Xander the Chef

Want some?

Xander cooked his own dinner tonight.
He saw the recipe card Granny had picked up at the butcher and declared he wanted to make the mince bread baskets.
We cooked the mince, adding in baked beans and pumpkin puree, then buttered the bread and popped them into muffin trays. Spooning the mince carefully into the bread was so much fun!
Then after it was cooked in the oven, Xander was delighted to top it with grated cheese and a cherry tomato.
He even thought it tasted great! Perhaps this is the way to get him to eat dinner.

Esmee had a nibble but wasn't too fussed. But Xander ate one and said he wanted to make more tomorrow - luckily i have frozen the left over mixture for next time!

Granny and Grampa come to stay

Queens Birthday weekend we were lucky enough to have Granny and Grampa stay.
Xander was excited to have them sleeping in his room while he got to sleep on his Thomas Bed in Esmee's room - of course we had to seperate them at bed time and move him into bed once they were both asleep!
After lots of shopping - because Granny didn't do enough on her holiday! - and lots of cuddles the weekend came to an end and we now wait for Nanna's visit in 2 weeks.

Tight squeeze

Esmee is fascinated with her dolls bed. Every day she tries and manages to squeeze in and giggle with her dollies! What is it with children squeezing into small spaces? are they trying to keep a hold on their childhood which seems to be speeding passed? Or is it perhaps a way of telling us she wants a bigger bed....

Doctor Xander

Xander has become totally fascinated with playing Doctors. He is forever asking Esmee if she is sick and going up to her and looking in her mouth, wrapping her arm or listening to her chest.
Every day at Kindy he goes straight to the family corner and puts the stethoscope around his neck.
I wonder if it is because of all the visits to the doctor and hospital we have made over the past 8 weeks?

Two Peas...

Xander and Esmee, brother and sister. Friends.

Esmee loves puzzles just like Xander and out came the foam ones - we hadn't done these with Esmee yet and i was surprised at how quickly she caught on.

We went to the supermarket one afternoon and they just loved holding hands. Three people stopped to say hello and comment how lovely they are! Of course i agreed and they just beamed!

As the big brother and a big boy now Xander insists on helping Esmee with every thing. She doesn't always like it - doesn't like being reminded she can't actually do everything Xander can! - but amazingly she let him do up her pj's. Just so cute.
Wonder how long it will last!

Sick, Sick, Sick!

This week has seen us all - bar Alan - knocked back with a cold. Of course it's hit me the hardest since my immune system is shot from the meningitis! Poor Esmee had a few days where she had a temperature and felt horrible and Xander got away with 1 day off kindy and a runny nose and a bit of a cough, but we are all on the mend now.
We will update with better news and some photos when we are all well.

Dancing

Xander had his first dancing lesson last Tuesday and he loved it! He doesn't seem to mind that he is the only boy and he got right into it.
This week when i took him he decided he didn't like it but i think he was tired - i took him home and straight to bed. Hopefully next week he will like it.

Horsey ride

The kids were feeling extra energetic and loving the other night and decided to have horsey rides. It was hilarious as their giggles were so infectious! They did this for a good 15 minutes.

First Day at Kindy - Again!

Xander started his new Kindy on Monday last week. St Andrews Kindy a public (free!) kindy.
He got right in and hung up his bag, found his name and then explored the massive play area.
His answer to what he does at kindy is still "Nothing" much like when he first started at kids club, so i'm hoping soon he will tell me something else! He now goes every day for two hours in the afternoon and he really enjoys it - at least i guess that's why he gets excited after lunch when i announce it's time for kindy!

Our time in Wellington

We spent the week after Easter weekend in Wellington as it was my Nana and Grandad's 60th wedding anniversary. turned out i didn't get to enjoy the party as i was rather ill...
The kids got to spend lots of time with Granny, going to the beach, chilling in the back garden, building towers, having fluffies - it was a great time!

Braving the winds the kids went to the rescue helicopter and were quite serious about putting on their safety belts - wonder if it was the wind??

It was Uncle Matt's birthday and Grandad's birthday while we were there so for Uncle Matt's birthday Alan and i went out for dinner and had a massive icecream sundae - not each between all of us! Alan took the kids out to the Hutt for Grandad's birthday and they had a marvelous time.
Due to me being ill Alan got to spend heaps of quality time with the kids, and they really loved that too - funny how it is continueing two weeks later!
