Esmee and her Menagerie

Esmee just loves dolls and soft animals.
Every night she must have them all in her bed or we have to hunt the house until she is satisfied. 2 dolls, a teddy bear, a rolly dog, baa sheep and of course Jill.

New friend Douglas

Xander had a playdate - and by this Esmee did too - with a new friend from morning Kindy. Douglas. He lives on the same street as kindy and has a little brother, William just two months older than Esmee.

Xander had a great time playing with all of Dougy's construction toys, check out his product!

Esmee loved exploring the play room while William slept and discovered the parking garage and all the cars, and even the train set.

Next week Douglas and William are going to come and investigate our toys! Hopefully the sun will be shining like today and they can play in the fort.

Sweets for my sweets

Xander and Esmee have finally started eating their giant lollipops from Candyland. Man what a mess they made. Of course Xander had enough after 5 minutes but Esmee went for about half an hour. Needless to say, there is still heaps of each left!

Xander wanted to do a craft and i was sick of having the kids cards and various small games all over the house. Out came a shoe box and the kids delighted in decorating it for their games!

Esmee loves playing tea parties, here she is serving tea to Baa Sheep!

On Grandad's Boat

No trip to Taupo is complete without going on Grandad's boat.

Both Xander and Esmee were excited to be on it and they even got to be the captain!

Craters of the Moon - Taupo

We took the kids to the Craters of the Moon, just something different to do while in Taupo.
We took Nanna with us and kids enjoyed the walk, though Xander didn't like the stink - it was only faintly sulphuric! After a big climb up to the top to view the whole little valley of steam it was great to get to the car park - the kids by this time were hungry and tired = grumpy!
It was nice though, might see if we can go somewhere with working geysers next time!

Oh my's snow!

The kids have never seen or touched real snow so we took them to Mt Ruapehu. Well it was ice really but still really nice and fresh.
It was so hot we were all stripped to one top under our jackets.
The kids really enjoyed the sleding down the snow - except for when it hit them in the face when we put on the brakes, aka our feet!

Esmee didn't want to do any more after i made us fall off - fair enough too i say! - and was rather happy sitting down making "snow balls".

I'm sure Alan would have loved to be snow boarding but he seemed to enjoy himself. A nice trip to do again another time!

On holiday

Alan is on holiday this week so we took the kids to the Otorohanga Kiwi House on the way to a five day stay in Taupo.
I've never seen a kiwi before and am amazed how big they are! Sorry no photo as it was dark.

Xander wasn't as excited about them as i thought he would be but he loved the pukeko and the tuatara ( a real dinosaur!) .
Esmee just wanted to keep seeing ducks. I mean we can feed and see the ducks at the park down the road so lets have a look at the Falcon and the Owl...where is she?...oh, there are more ducks!

ooh there are the ducks!

Xander went for a closer inspection on one little bird and it got quite excited. It started bleating something terrible it was so funny!

The best moment was when we were crossing a bridge close to the end where some Grey Teals and more ducks were swimming.
This little Teal followed Xander along the rail and even ate food from his outstretched hand (mine too!).
