Uncle Matt's Visit

We've been so lucky to have a special visitor the past week.
Uncle Matt!! He arrived on Monday morning while the kids were at kindy and has been with us all week. He joined us for music, read stories, sat on the mat at kindy (with other kids, not Xander and Esmee!), came along to see what happens at kindy. And a special lunch to McDonald's. But best of all, he helped Daddy put up the fort over the weekend! We really have moved and settled into the house now.
He even went along with Xander to the Kindy trip to the Donkey Farm which was extra special for Xander! (that will be an extra post on it's own).
This morning Uncle Matt left and the kids are a bit sad, but they had a great time. Thanks Uncle Matt, come back soon!

Esmee's turn

Finally Esmee gets her turn on the computer. We booted up the old computer and loaded the Dora game for her and she loves it! Everyday she asks to play computer game, so following in Xander's footsteps there!
Great for the hand-eye co-ordination and learning about numbers and matching. She learns quickly, or perhaps it's just her stage of development but she quickly got used to moving the mouse and quickly where she needed to go.

Before i was a Mum

I've posted this poem before, but i got it in an email today and i think i needed to add a paragraph or two of my own words! What do you think?

Before I was a Mum,
I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about carseats.

Before I was a Mum,
I had never been puked on.
Pooped on.
Chewed on..
Peed on.
I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mum,
I never held down a screaming child so doctors could do tests, or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mum,
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put her down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mum.

Before I was a Mum -
I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was a Mum -
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache,
The wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mum.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much, before I was a Mum.

my addition:

Before i was a Mum -

i never knew a child was capable of bringing forth so much pride,

i never knew i would cry because i thought i was a bad mum,

i never knew i was capable of so much frustration and impatience,

i never knew a small child was capable of the never ending depths of forgiveness and love when i made mistakes.

Before i was a Mum,

i never knew i was capable of all i can and can’t do for my children and for myself.

i never knew what true love really is, before i was a Mum.

...and an artiste to boot!

We have enrolled Xander in soccer! Not sure exactly when he starts but last weekend we bought him his little boots and pants and socks and a ball and shin pads. It is so exciting! We have a briefing meeting on the 20th where we find out what team he'll be in and hopefully he'll be in one will some friends. But if not he'll still have a ball! hehe.

Our son is a rather talented artist. When he slows down and puts his mind to it. Here is his self portrait and a '3 day picture' which his teacher advises is more like a 7 day picture - it's a layered picture that Xander took away and did his own thing with!
We love the colours and the minute details. Usually there are just splashes of colours but no real drawing, which is cool because at this age it's not really expected, but then he rocks out something like these and it's like, WOW!

settling in and a play date

Esmee is settling in well at kindy. When i go to pick her up she has a huge smile on her face and is invariably at the front joining in the activity of mat time! The teachers comments are that she is constantly smiling and is so quiet! Guess she isn't that comfortable yet, so when she is i hope they are prepared for the storm of Esmee!!

We had an impromptu play date at Douglas' house last week and the kids enjoyed it! It's always so much fun playing with their toys.

Xander wrote a letter to Nanna. Such a clever wee man. Enjoy your new job in Taupo! He even drew her a family portrait to take with her for her office wall.

Esmee drew a self-portrait. such attention to detail. Eyes, fingers, toes, belly button. Following the footsteps of her brother!
